The Old Grammarians’ Society was founded in 1984 with the aim of creating
a forum between former students of the Karachi Grammar School. Since then the Society
has extended its activities to provide essential financial assistance to needy students
at major educational institutions of the country so that all meritorious students
are provided the education they deserve.
Between 1984 and 2006 the Society grew steadily both in terms of membership and
fund raising for its education support initiative.
- With under 50 members in 1985 the Society grew to over 1500 members by 2006
- Operating Income has risen from Rs 5000 in 1988 to approx Rs 13. Million in 2006
- Scholarship support has risen from from Rs. 4000 in 1989 to over Rs 6 million in
2006
With the rapid increase in revenues and income, an Endowment Fund was established
in 2002 to ensure income annuity for on-going scholarship support. However, in 2005
the OGS decided to obtain a status of Trust so that it could aggressively raise
funds by tax deductible donations in order to meet the ever growing needs of its
scholarship program
In January 2006, OGS was granted the status of a Trust (OGS Trust). The Trust is
currently supporting 127 students at 41 different Pakistan based institutions, with
annual support of Rs. 6 million.
With the grant of Trust status, the OGS is now actively seeking support of its membership
and that of the corporate community to significantly increase the size, scope and
structure of its ‘Support Education Program’
- Activities under consideration are development of OGS Trust funded and managed schools
in indigent localities
- Collaboration with deserving existing education charities
- Rapid growth in existing Scholarship Program with a target to support 500 students
annually by the year 2008.
